Kasteel De Haar
Kasteellaan 1 3455 RR HaarzuilensThere are few castles in Holland that come so close to fulfilling the fairy-tale image of a medieval neo-gothic castle, but De Haar manages to do so. The castle is surrounded by a moat, old gardens, ponds and a full-grown forest. The castle was founded in the course of the fourteenth century, on sediment deposits along a blind arm of the river Rhine . The first references to the castle date back to 1391. De Haar, however, is really special because - more than 100 years ago now - it was entirely restored and partially rebuilt, resulting in a restoration unparalleled in Europe . This involves not only the architecture, but also the interior and the gardens. The interior of the castle can be viewed only by joining a guided tour. The tour take about 50 minutes and start at each hour. Children younger than 5 years are not allowed to join these tours.
