Volendam

Volendam, also known as “The Pearl of the Zuiderzee” is a fishing village founded in the fourteenth century, located 20km northeast of Amsterdam, between Edam and Marken. 
Volendam is one of the favorite day trips from Amsterdam. The small town on the Markermeer still retains its original fisher village atmosphere and you can see people in a traditional dress here. The houses are made of wood and painted green and white.
